Regular price $4,150.00 $3,940.00 Sale

The Techkon SpectroPlate is a high resolution digital microscope that measures dot percentage, screen angles, lines per inch/cm, dot gain and AM, FM or Hybrid Screens of traditional offset or process-less, chemistry-free printing plates.

Offset Plate Measurement Device & Digital Microscope

Available in 3 Versions:

  • Start:  for dot percentage measurements on all popular types of printing plates, film and CMYK print.

  • Expert:  adds the recording of complete transfer curves and the possibility to analyze geometric objects within the device.

  • All-Vision:  same functions as the Expert version but works with processless, low-contrast plates.

The measurement of the right dot transfer on offset printing plates is a key segment of comprehensive process control in the printing industry. At present, plate measurement technology based on microscopic image capture and processing is the established standard. TECHKON SpectroPlate unifies all advantages of this modern measurement technology in a compact, hand-held instrument.

The extraordinary high measurement accuracy of SpectroPlate is determined by the quality of the optical system and the performance of the image processing algorithms. Thanks to the excellent image capture quality and the ingenious graphic calculations, SpectroPlate can read precisely any screen size and screen technology: FM, AM or Hybrid screen. The spectrally white illumination and dynamic color evaluation permits reading all kinds of plate types and coated surfaces.  But it is not only plate reading where SpectroPlate shows its strengths.  This multifunctional device expertly handles dot measurement on film as well as on printed paper in CMYK-print.

How Does SpectroPlate Work?

The sample is illuminated uniformly with spectral broadband light.  The microscopic image is captured by a precision optical lens system and a high resolution CMOS color matrix sensor with high dynamic range.  The processing of the detailed color image is performed by a powerful graphic signal processor and sophisticated imaging algorithms.  All relevant quality parameters for correctly manufactured printing plates are shown on the LCD display.

The included Windows software connects the device to a PC. Measured values and transfer curves are displayed and stored. All measurement data can be used directly for linearizing a RIP powered plate processor. An exceptional feature is the enlarged view of the microscopic images.

SpectroPlate lets you see things normally hidden to the human eye. It shows the raster dots on a film or a printing plate in large magnification on the device display or, optionally, on your computer screen.  It lets you visually judge printing plates and discover any soiling or exposure errors now that the structure of the dots is visible.

A specific strength is the image transfer of uncompressed high-resolution files to the PC where they can be stored, edited or sent over the Internet.  Geometric sizes of dots or lines can be retrieved in micrometer- or mils- dimensions.

All devices are factory-calibrated to the official reference fogra Measuring Bar FMB resulting in high long-term absolute accuracy and an excellent inter-instrument agreement.  Additionally, time-consuming calibration procedures prior to measurements are obsolete.

Resources

Is SpectroPlate a portable device?

Yes, it is a compact and mobile unit with an integrated LCD graphic display which shows the measurement data and the enlarged microscopic image.

Can dot percentage values be transmitted directly into RIP applications?

Yes, just connect SpectroPlate via the USB connection to a Windows PC and use the supplied software SpectroPlate Connect to send the measurement data pre-formatted directly into the RIP application in order to linearize a platesetter.

Why is SpectroPlate so accurate?

It is a combination of a high precision optical system and the use of sophisticated image processing algorithms. By internally calibrating each device in the factory to the accurate offset plate reference FMB from the renown research institute fogra, SpectroPlate units have an excellent inter-instrument agreement.

What about maintenance?

SpectroPlate is maintenance free. It is designed to work in harsh industrial environments. Since there are no moving parts, there is no wear and tear.

Why can SpectroPlate handle all different types of offset plates?

Thanks to the spectral broadband sample illumination and the dynamic color image selection high contrast images for all different plate materials ensure high measurement quality.
